Web 2.0 and YOU! ~

1. How will emerging technology affect literacy?
I fell as if emerging technology has both a positive and negative effect on literacy.
On the positive side, it is really easy and fast to expand our knowledge on a specific subject. It takes 5 minutes, the most to go onto google and type a question that we don't know the answer to and to get the answer. We can use these new technologies to find out the correct spelling of a word, to find out the definition of a word and so on.
On the negative side, having these technologies and having the answer to all of our questions at the tip of our fingers really doesn't allow us to use our brains as much. Instead of picking up a dictionary to find the spelling or meaning of a word, we use the internet. Instead of using an encyclopedia for research information on something, we turn to google.

2. How is Web 2.0  challenging us to "rethink" ourselves?
Web 2.0 is challenging us to rethink ourselves by teaching us about what technologies are really capable of doing. It is so easy for something to go viral on the internet, we need to be careful of what we put on it. Children are even starting to grow up attached to technology, and losing what we called our childhood.
Having such websites, like facebook, twitter etc. makes it easier to stay in touch with people who are not currently with you. You are able to keep a relationship with someone far away from you, without affecting it too much. A lot of people, like myself, are really grateful for that.
